A Country that Cares!

Billions, not millions, of dollars in American Aid have been mustered to help the victims of the Tsunami in southern Asia.  As one may expect, these massive donations come not from the United States government, but from the private citizens of this country who smile as they donate more than the rest of the world put together.  This is as it should be!  How wonderful that the people have showed their wisdom yet again as they do the work on their own, not expecting the government to do their charity for them.

This is not to criticize the government, which has dispatched multiple military units and planeloads of relief supplies, along with $350 million, to the area.  Part of this response was ramped up to refute those libelous charges from Jan Egeland of the United Nations that America is somehow "stingy."  But, since we first pledged $15 million, we’ve upped that amount by over two thousand percent.  But that’s enough.  Leave it to the people.

Bill and Melinda Gates have provided eight digits in donations.  These two people have donated more than Mr. Egeland’s country did in total.  By the way, this is not unusual for the Gates family.  The Microsoft founder and world’s richest man is also, by a hefty margin, the world’s most generous man.  Other wealthy Americans, those excoriated by the elite left as greedy self-interested evil enslavers, have ponied up, without prodding, to the tune of over $100 million.  This disaster is barely a week old and Americans are helping as nobody could ever believe was possible.

"According to the rest of the world, we’re greedy, arrogant users, who do nothing except out of avarice or self-interest.  Well, the rest of the world is mistaken, as the Marshall Plan and the cemeteries of WW-I and WW-II American soldiers in Europe attest."

Why?  According to the rest of the world, we’re greedy, arrogant users, who do nothing except out of avarice or self-interest.  Well, the rest of the world is mistaken, as the Marshall Plan and the cemeteries of WW-I and WW-II American soldiers in Europe attest.  We fight and die to give freedom to others.  When nature and other vicissitudes of life rear their heads, American people give from the heart.  God sees these people and their hearts.  He must obviously be pleased.

Ugh!  Here comes the religious right, trying to cram their ultra-conservative Christianity down our throats!  Not at all.  The Red Crescent is a Muslim organization.  Catholic Charities does not adhere to a right-wing agenda.  I do not see the massive shipments of food and potable water wrapped in Bible tracts or copies of Rush Limbaugh books.  As a Christian, I see that Jesus has stated that how we treat the least among us is how we treat Jesus Himself.  The relief and the generosity that have come from the citizens of this republic is breathtaking and heartwarming!  God must be pleased.

To the citizens of the United States, Bravo!  Keep up the generosity!  What better way to show the world that we are not the louts they think that we are!
