Liberal Introspection - Finally?

Mark Brown, a liberal, wrote a column in the Chicago Sun-Times today.  Entitled, "What if Bush has been right about Iraq all along?", the column represents a significant break from the liberalspeak, especially that which has been shoveled about the past few days.

"As Mr. Brown said, ’It’s hard to swallow, isn’t it?’ "

While Brown does refer to the elated Iraqis who toppled the Saddam statue as "rabble," and continued to write, "And while you cheered Saddam’s capture, you couldn’t help but thinking I-told-you-so in the months that followed as the violence continued to spread and the death toll mounted."  It is obvious that Mr. Brown buys most, if not all, of the elite left party line when it comes to Iraq (you know what I mean, "Wrong War, wrong place, wrong time, troops died for [choose one: oil / nothing / Revenge for Bush 41].").  However, he then goes on to say that the Iraqi elections have given him something of a pause, as he pondered whether our beloved president had it right after all.  As Mr. Brown said, "It’s hard to swallow, isn’t it?"  For the elite left, I believe that it is indeed hard to swallow.  Our president, long excoriated as a class-A dunce, had it right-on.

Mr. Brown, of course, can’t leave it alone and adds, "Obviously, I’m still curious to see if Bush is willing to allow the Iraqis to install a government that is free to kick us out or to oppose our other foreign policy efforts in the region."  I will answer you now, sir.  He will honor the free will of free people.  It is the only way that his nature will allow him to act.  And that’s the wonderful thing.  W is all about freedom, no matter what the lefties say about unused provisions of the Patriot Act, or the non-existent anti-Gay Marriage amendment.

"With the help of God, the American people and the U.S. Armed forces, W has liberated tens of millions of people from despotic rule that rivalled Nazi Germany in terms of bare oppression."

With the help of God, the American people and the U.S. Armed forces, W has liberated tens of millions of people from despotic rule that rivalled Nazi Germany in terms of bare oppression.  It’s what we do, at least when GOP presidents occupy the residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.  For those who hate America, which includes virtually everyone in the Democratic base, our innate pursuit of the good has to sicken them.  We continuously strive to free people from tyranny.

Brown concluded: "If it turns out Bush was right all along, this is going to require some serious penance. Maybe I’d have to vote Republican in 2008."  One can only hope.  PErsonally, I think that our President has already be proven right.  If you do vote with us, Mr. Brown, please know that, unlike the intolerant extreme leftists, we do not look askance at those who do not toe the entire party line.  You will be welcome.
