Desperate Democrats are trying their hardest to maintain their unconstitutional filibusters of our beloved President’s judicial nominees. Bill Frist is now ensured that he has at least 52 votes (he needs 50) to detonate the Nuclear Option and to detonate these leftist efforts to thwart the will of the people. Reuters is reporting that the detonation is imminent. As we gleefully noted on Friday, the situation is one where Dr. Frist, leader of the increasing GOP majority in the Senate, realizes that the Dems are obstructionists who have unfairly tarnished the sterling reputations of these nominees, thinking only of their own political expediency instead of what’s good for the United States of America.
"None of these people are the "extremists" that the left represents that they are. They are just not extreme Leftists, making them inappropriate in the eyes of the leftists who have co-opted the Democratic party."
Dr. Frist is doing the right thing. The latest "comproimise" would tank the nominations of Henry Saad to the 6th Circuit, Priscilla Owen to the 5th Circuit, and William Myers III to the 9th Circuit. None of these people are the "extremists" that the left represents that they are. They are just not extreme Leftists, making them inappropriate in the eyes of the leftists who have co-opted the Democratic party. Honestly, the Dems should change their name to the "Socialist" party, since their platform shares more in common with Lenin than Jefferson.
The "compromise," which has among its supporters some linguini-spined GOP-ers (Thanks to Rush for the term "linguini-spined"), has the same fault that the Trent Lott / Ben Nelson compromise of about a week ago. The Democrats keep insisting that they will abandon the filibuster "except in extreme circumstances." As I noted before, the term is so nebulous that the libs could claim extreme circumstances with impunity, making this so-called deal a one-way street -- in the favor of the shrinking minority. Dr. Frist would be insane to seriously consider such a deal. It assumes honor on the part of the Left, a trait for which they are not known.
Dr. Frist has no political cost for detonation. Whether or not he exercises the option, the press will still excoriate him and all of the GOP; the press is left-wing and mnakes no attempt to cover up its disgust for the GOP, its hatred of personal responsibility, its open advocacy of licentiousness in lieu of true liberty, and its repulsion by this country, and all it stands for, and all who love it. So the press will hate the lovers of America no matter what. They did not hurt us in 2004, when they manufactured lies to try to tip an election. They won’t hurt us now.
So how about the electorate? Well, what do they (we -- after all we are the people who elected the president and senators with majority votes) see? Here are the leftists, trying their hardest to keep our beloved, mandate-elected President and our increased majority of senators from doing what they were elected to do. The GOP uses the rules to restore the founders’ intent to the judicial process. This will only serve to endear the electorate to us. The GOP base will love us for sticking to our guns, and facing down that which they sensibly recognize as a danger to the republic. I speak not only of the notion of attempting to impose a superconstitutional requirement upon judicial confirmation, but also of the disturbing notion of rejecting honest, qualified people for fear of their perceived view of our Constitution.
"This is what this whole thing boils down to: ideology. The left is desperate to keep people who are true to our Constitution off of the courts."
This is what this whole thing boils down to: ideology. The left is desperate to keep people who are true to our Constitution off of the courts. Justice Stevens is now 85 years old, and refuses to retire because he is extremely liberal and fears another conservative coming onto the court. I do not expect him to retire anytime soon. The left hears from labor unions, animal rights protesters, NARAL and militant groups from gay rights to anti-logging, all demanding, stridently, that there be no more conservatives in the judiciary! Were the left in sufficient control of the Congress, I would be unsurprised if they were to try to arrange to impeach justices Thomas and Scalia for their ideology.
The left lacks this kind of power. The people, in the last two national elections, increased the GOP’s congressional majorities, and furthermore handed more states to the GOP. California has a popular Republican governor, whose clashes with the legislature have set the stage for the left’s loss of control of our largest state. There is no end in sight to GOP gains. Why do you think that the media constantly looks for some kind of scandal to try to topple the GOP? Aside from the Post-Watergate Carter-Hiccup, the country has been moving steadily to the right since Lyndon Johnson.
The left has little if any chance to reclaim its lost power any time in the near future. They are therefore desperate to prevent the people from tasting true liberty, and rely on the courts to preserve and implement their anti-Constitutional, anti-American agenda. George W. Bush and Dr. Frist realize this fact, and they have decided to put an end to this -- now. In the next couple of days, America will go to nuclear war with a hostile force -- the leftists. As we did in 1945, we will rapidly prevail. There will be widespread destruction -- of the leftists’ tenuous grip on the neck of our judiciary. Hurrah!
