His finger is on the red button as the Senate debates our President’s nomination of Priscilla Owen to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. He is making the Democrats object on the record and in front of the CSPAN-2 cameras. If they try to tank this confirmation vote, he will immediately detonate the Nuclear Option. This maneuver is, in essence, Dr. Frist’s last call for Constitutional respect. He is giving the leftists this last chance to honor their oaths to preserve and protect and defend our Constitution.
"While the leftist press rants on as if there is a question as to the outcome, one fact remains: There is simply no way that Dr. Frist would execute this option if he did not have at least 51 votes in the bag."
While the leftist press rants on as if there is a question as to the outcome, one fact remains: There is simply no way that Dr. Frist would execute this option if he did not have at least 51 votes in the bag. The Dems know this; the result was the whimpering plea of Harry Reid (D-NV), senate shrinking minority leader, to adjourn the senate into a confidential meeting (no aides, no press) to hack the issue out. Dr. Frist rejected this, quite wisely. They left has no intention of acting in good faith in this matter, so why waste time negotiating? It’s a stall tactic, and has been properly recognized and rejected for what it is.
Conservativity has gone on record with its wholehearted support of Dr. Frist, the GOP, our President and his nominees. We feel vindiacted and affirmed in our decision. We are warmed by seeing Dr. Frist showing off his steel spine in dealing with leftists who care nothing for our Constitution, while pretending to defend it with their ribald show of partisan power exercised for no reason other than political advantage. As Ken Starr noted, and was misquoted by CBS, it is unprecedented that the leftists in the Senate are opposing judicial nominees of good character and high qualification for fear of their judicial philosophy.
Mind you, if the GOP had filibustered the confirmations of Douglas, Brennan, Frankfurter, Thurgood Marshall or other leftists, the Dems would have long ago exercised this very Nuclear option. Don’t believe otherwise. The GOP has always been the party that is deferential to the Constitution, and the Congressional Record shows that the GOP is the party of the people, the champion of Civil Rights, and the defender of our great Constitution.
I feel as if I rant excessively about this situation, so I am glad that the issue seems to be coming to a conclusion. We await one of two outcomes: 1) Left backs down and votes up/down on our President’s nominees; or 2) Left does not back down and their filibuster is nuked. Either way, the people win, the Constitution wins, and the American way of life wins.
