Matt Drudge

Matt Drudge reports the news on his web site, the Drudge Report, at www.drudgereport.com.  Since 1994, Mr. Drudge reports virtually everything he sees, and because of that, he has been accused of being a right-wing extremist.  But that is not why Conservativity proudly inducts Mr. Drudge to its Hall of Fame for commentators and the press.  Were it not for Matt Drudge, there would be dozens of blockbuster stories that would have never seen the light of day, killed by the left-wing media.

For example, Newsweek had killed a story by Michael Issikoff about a President’s improper dalliance with a White House intern.  Matt Drudge found out about the killed story and ran with it.  The intern was Monica Lewinsky and the president was Clinton.  Drudge also ran with Issikoff’s killed Kathleen Willey story.  The result was the impeachment and bar suspension of Bill Clinton, for intentional perjury.  Were it not for Matt Drudge, these items would have been buried by a left-wing media that will go to the mat to ruin a GOP leader, and will also go to the mat to protect a Democratic leader.

"The leftist media pooh-poohs Drudge as an unreliable source, "without filters."  Thank God that Matt Drudge has no filters!  Those media "filters" have, so far, been proven to work with a strong bias for leftists and against conservatives."

Case in point:  Another Drudge scoop showed that CBS and the New York Times collaborated on a 2004 "October Suprise" about missing weapons stockpiles in Iraq.  Drudge then went on to scoop that the weapons were not missing after all!  Nonetheless, the leftist media pooh-poohs Drudge as an unreliable source, "without filters."  Thank God that Matt Drudge has no filters!  Those media "filters" have, so far, been proven to work with a strong bias for leftists and against conservatives.  Matt Drudge has become the de facto exposer of "mainstream" media bias and hypocrisy.

Another case in point is Election Day 2004.  It was Drudge who ran with the story that the exit polls were skewed.  Even Fox News insiders like Brit Hume looked ready to concede a Kerry landslide when they came on the air with election coverage.  Susan Estrich was crowing on-camera.  Who was right?  Matt Drudge!  Our President had won a handy mandate, and the strong suspicion that the exit polls were skewed in an effort to deflate GOP support in the west persists to this day.

As the leftist media continues to assault Matt Drudge as an irresponsible journalist, he continues to break the stories that they have buried.  The media’s efforts to promote their leftist friends and smear conservatives are stymied by Drudge’s production of the truth!  This is the true reason why the media elitists continue to defame him.  Drudge is the conservative’s best news source.  I don’t see that changing at any time in the near future.

Neither do millions of others.  The Drudge Report gets about ten million visits every single day.  The web site is not glitzy, it is not full of advanced HTML goodies that make it a technological wonder.  It’s actually very simple in layout, and that simplicity makes the site more accessible by virtue of its speed.

Mr. Drudge describes himself as a libertarian, and continues to report things that the others kill.  Even the White House itself, under Clinton, tried to kill off Drudge.  Former Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal sued Matt Drudge for running a story, asking for $30 million, and ended up settling the suit by paying Matt Drudge’s attorney fees and getting nothing for himself.  The concession?  Drudge agreed to forego his (valid) counterclaims, and not to pursue a motion to throw the case out of court, with sanctions.

"Aside from his constant breaking of important news, Drudge also links news sites and commentators.  He links to these sites with no bias whatsoever; Rush and Ann Coulter are linked in the same listing with Susan Estrich and Molly Ivins."

In 1994, The Drudge Report started out as an email newsletter.  Later, in 1997, the www.drudgereport.com site made its debut.  In 2002, the site broke the 1,000,000,000 (one billion) visits per year mark, and in the year ended May 25, 2005, has over 3.445 billion visits.  Aside from his constant breaking of important news, Drudge also links news sites and commentators.  He links to these sites with no bias whatsoever; Rush and Ann Coulter are linked in the same listing with Susan Estrich and Molly Ivins.  Mr Drudge resides in Florida and was born in 1966.

With good reason, Conservativity cheers Matt Drudge and inducts him into our Hall of Fame.
