Hurrah for Her Majesty's Secret Service!

We here in the USA, are sometimes quite arrogant about our ability to project power.  After all, in Gulf War I, we practically destroyed the 4th largest army on Earth, by remote control.  Nobody’s equipment can detect our planes as they fly overhead; our bombs drop out of planes and fly themselves directly into the center of their targets, our unmanned drones hunt for Bin Laden without putting our own men and women directly in the path of his henchmen’s guns.  But, today, British Intelligence, yes, that organization that gave us the mythical James Bond, has struck the big blow in the war on terror.

"Since 9/11, we have been steadily reducing most of Al-Qaeda to the Stone Age.  However,  the remnants set up a pesky network of web sites, that not only relayed news, but gave detailed instructions on bomb-making and bombing techniques."

Since 9/11, we have been steadily reducing most of Al-Qaeda to the Stone Age.  However,  the remnants set up a pesky network of web sites, that not only relayed news, but gave detailed instructions on bomb-making and bombing techniques.  Now it’s reported that Her Majesty’s Secret Service did what we did not: they shut down those web sites!

The tone of the story suggested that MI-6 did more than just complain to an ISP.  In fact, these sites were hosted in places where the ISP would tell you what you could go do with a camel if you complained.  These sites were destroyed!  The pizza-and-Jolt types in England got into their hacker gear and wiped out some Al-Qaeda web sites, and probably the computers upon which they ran, and probably the routers that connected them to the Internet.

And you thought all hackers were bad!  As I said when those idiots chose to bomb London the first time, they made an error.  Englishmen and Englishwomen are brave and strong.  They would fight back, and they came right after the instruction books and the communication channels.  Like our brave Israeli friends, the British did not play around, and spew wimpy words about respecting sovereign nations.   What happened to the Bush Doctrine?  Remember, if any nation supports terror, it is the same to us as the terrorists?

The British went into the communication networks of other nations and they destroyed assets, intentionally.  The British took the Bush Doctrine to heart.  You may think that taking out a few web sites is no big deal, but the Internet is the main communication channel for these thugs.  We just watched the British do what we should have done.

Hurrah for Her Majesty’s Secret Service!
