Newsmax is running a rumor story, and I emphasize that this is a rumor story, that Vice President Dick Cheney is about to resign his position, and President Bush will immediately nominate Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to take his place. The Newsmax article posits that the Valerie Plame "outing" scandal is a pretext for Cheney’s resignation, but that the true motive is to position Condi for the GOP nomination in 2008.
The rumor makes no sense to me. If they want to position Condi as VP, they could simply come out and say that. Or, if they want to play coy, they could have VP Cheney cite his health as a pretext for his resignation. He has already made it clear that he will not run for President in 2008. This sounds like a rumor, generated by the Left, made up of wishful thinking by those who see their hopes and dreams of a ruined Bush administration fading by the day.
"So is our Rice 2008 dream coming true? Let’s review. A committee to draft Condi has formed, and raised enough money to buy ads during the left-wing agitprop, Commander in Chief."
So is our Rice 2008 dream coming true? Let’s review. A committee to draft Condi has formed, and raised enough money to buy ads during the left-wing agitprop, Commander in Chief. This Cheney resignation rumor raised up, partly becuse of Dick Morris’ well-researched and sensible book, Condi versus Hillary: The Next Great Presidential Race. The party masses seem to think that Condi is an ideal candidate for the Oval Office. Conservativity agrees.
Dick Morris’ book is doing the most to convince me that our dreams will come true. Demographically, Hillary Clinton can only be countered by a conservative woman. Condi has the demographic effect of splitting the Democratic stronghold of minority voters. Condi also has the literacy and ability to educate these voters as to why the GOP is where their interests are best served, where conservative values of self-sufficiency, school choice and true equality that breaks poverty will resonate.
Will Cheney’s resignation, in disgrace, according to the rumor, help Condi if she is VP? Yes. If Condi is VP, even under those circumstances, she will be in a better position to run in 2008. However, Secretary of State has historically been a great position from which to run as well. Why subject Dick Cheney to the disgrace of associating the resignation with the non-scandal of the Plame leak? He can claim his health and be telling the truth. This is why I doubt the Newsmax rumor.
Time will tell if our dream is indeed coming true. Condi. President. 2008. I like the idea. A lot!
