Is It Still "The Economy, Stupid?"

As the extreme Left, as personified by the leadership of the Democratic party, keeps on railing about the war in Iraq, nobody has paid any attention to the economy as of late.  While Congressional Republicans are busy trying to act like socialists, attempting to tax oil companies for profit margins that are historically constant and simultaneously cutting them off from ANWR, nobody has paid any attention to the economy as of late.  The press plays up General Motors’ planned future layoffs, while ignoring the surging stock market, where Ben Bernanke’s impending Fed charimanship has Wall Street dancing with joy.

"In 1992, where a victorious George H. W. Bush lost a 3-way race where the GOP vote was split between him and Ross Perot, the Democrats crowed that foreign policy meant nothing:  ’It’s the Economy, stupid!’ "

In 1992, where a victorious George H. W. Bush lost a 3-way race where the GOP vote was split between him and Ross Perot, the Democrats crowed that foreign policy meant nothing:  "It’s the Economy, stupid!"  There was a small, cyclical, recession, which had already broken by election day 1992.  Bill Clinton rode into office on the illusion of a recession, and won a minority, but a plurality, of the vote, again, only because of Ross Perot.  No Perot, no Clinton.  But the Democrats crowed about the economy, came into power, and Bill promptly appointed Hillary to try to socialize the Country, starting with the oppressive "Health Security" plan.  The people, realizing the true evil intent of the Left, promptly voted them out of control of the Congress, and kept them out of control to this day?  Why?  Economic considerations.  Why should they pay massive taxes in order to be forced to get inferior-but-free medical care, and in the way the government told them they should, under penalty of criminal law?  It was the Economy, stupid!

Will the people vote their wallets in 2006?  In 1992, we had a listless and visionless pseudo-conservative Bush 41 demanding re-election based on a won-but-incomplete war.  And he would have gotten it were it not for Ross Perot’s splitting the GOP vote.  The people were still coming out of a recession, and that inflated the Democratic vote to about 47%.  That was enough to win.  In 2006, we will have a roaring economy, unless the GOP stupidly raises taxes and / or fails to truly cut spending.

"I think that, now that McCain is on board for serious spending cuts, and the conservatives are cranking up their crackdown, we’re in for a serious bump-up in spending cuts, and the permanency of the tax cuts.  That will result in a Dow of about 13,000 by election day."

Personally, I think that it will be the "economy, stupid" in 2006.  I think that, now that McCain is on board for serious spending cuts, and the conservatives are cranking up their crackdown, we’re in for a serious bump-up in spending cuts, and the permanency of the tax cuts.  That will result in a Dow of about 13,000 by election day.  The boomers who saw their savings evaporate when Clinton’s irrational exuberance, smoke-and-mirrors "information superhighway" Internet bubble burst will see that their savings are back in black.  They will remember who did the hard work on this, the Republicans, and will look at their lower taxes.  And the Grand Old Party will reap the benefits.

Also by 2006, the foreign policy arguments will be moot.  The elections in Iraq will be a success, and Iraq will be the very bastion of freedom that the Middle East needs.  The war in Iraq will be winding down, and Al-Qaeda will be on the ropes, and probably headed into Syria (not Iran; al-Qaeda is Sunni and Iran is controlled by Shi’ites), followed by us.  And we will find Saddam’s WMD’s, and I am sorry to say, some of them will be used on our troops before it’s all over.  I personally believe that al-Qaeda has control over at least some of the WMD’s as I write this.  I also think that al-Qaeda is holding off on using them, in hopes that the Left’s "Bush Lied" lie will cause his political downfall before he can cause al-Qaeda’s military downfall.  I think that, when al-Qaeda gets to the end of its rope, it will use WMD’s, probably gas, on American troops.  Our President will have a joyless "See I told you," and the Left will look for some other way to blame our President for being right all along.

But, in 2006, it will be the "economy, stupid."  And the "economy, stupid" will be roaring.  The richer, tax-liberated people will vote in those who made them that way, not those who want to take everything they have and tell them how to live their lives.
