First, Drudge breathlessly reported that the Democrats had a plan to "destroy Alito." the Democrats were sure that they had the bomb to destroy Sam Alito. He’s such an excellent nominee, so you know the dirty tactics had to come out. Well, they planned to Bork Alito -- literally. They were going to accuse him of being a racist for having some tenuous affiliation with "Concerned Alumni of Princeton." CAP is a group that complained of affirmative action in the 1970’s and 1980’s, and Judge Alito’s paperwork mentioned the group somewhere.
The Democrats scheduled a witness to come in and excoriate Alito as the worst racist since Hitler (a socialist liberal; making the comparison the most insulting thing you can do to a conservative). His name? Stgeven Dujack, a Princeton alumni like Alito. The problem with Dujack is that he is an extreme environmentalist, and has an axe to grind. He is also an extreme animal rights activist who has compared killing animals for food to the Holocaust. Rush spoke of this über-moonbat today. But let the moonbat make his own case: "Like the victims of the Holocaust, animals are rounded up, trucked hundreds of miles to the kill floor and slaughtered. Comparisons to the Holocaust are not only appropriate but inescapable because, whether we wish to admit it or not, cows, chickens, pigs and turkeys are as capable of feeling loneliness, fear, pain, joy and affection as we are. To those who defend the modern-day holocaust on animals by saying that animals are slaughtered for food and give us sustenance, I ask: If the victims of the Holocaust had been eaten, would that have justified the abuse and murder? Did the fact that lampshades, soaps and other ’useful’ products were made from their bodies excuse the Holocaust? No. Pain is pain."
"I eat meat. I don’t force anyone else to do so. But Mr. Dujack wants to control my body and tell me that I have to eat what he eats. Interesting, when liberals want to demean humans by implying that we are equal to farm animals. they’re A-OK."
I eat meat. I don’t force anyone else to do so. But Mr. Dujack wants to control my body and tell me that I have to eat what he eats. Interesting, when liberals want to demean humans by implying that we are equal to farm animals. they’re A-OK. But if we want to protect innocent human babies from being viciously murdered with a vacuum cleaner, or having their heads poked open and their brains sucked out 1/2 second before birth, we’re cruel. But I digress.
The best that the extreme Left can come up with is a moonbat’s moonbat, a truly incredible and unreasonable despotic vegetarian (just like Hitler), to argue that a man whose shoes he’s not fit to tie is unfit for the position for which all the lawyers in the country say he is "unanimously well qualified." And they think this idiotic stunt will work! From Drudge’s flash report, quoting Dujack: "Judge Alito will have to explain to the Senate Judiciary Committee why he paid dues to an outfit... that was overtly racist and sexist for its entire 14-year existence — at times passionately so, too...There is no way for Alito’s backers to claim his association with the organization does not imply endorsement of its views, for opposition to women and minorities at Princeton was as central to CAP as opposition to drunken driving is to MADD."
"It is not racist to oppose racial preferences. Moreover, considering Dujack’s extremism, the fact that Judge Alito was previously vetted to the Appellate court, and Judge Alito’s unassailable integrity, I find myself willing to believe Judge Alito over Mr. Dujack. Importantly, one of them is not trying to forcibly take my steak away."
That does not jibe with Judge Alito’s statement: "A document I recently reviewed reflects that I was a member of the group in the 1980s. Apart from that document, I have no recollection of being a member, of attending meetings or otherwise participating in the activities of the group." The group has an innocuous-sounding name. Apart from the left’s characterization of the group as racist and sexist, we know nothing of it. Affirmative action is the imposition of race based preferences to counteract past race-based preferences. CAP apparently bemoaned the use of this quota system. It is not racist to oppose racial preferences. Moreover, considering Dujack’s extremism, the fact that Judge Alito was previously vetted to the Appellate court, and Judge Alito’s unassailable integrity, I find myself willing to believe Judge Alito over Mr. Dujack. Importantly, one of them is not trying to forcibly take my steak away.
If this is the best that the extreme Left can come up with, it’s time to celebrate. They’re trying to give the Democrats something to hang their hats on. If they cannot torpedo Alito, what will they do this summer when Justice Stevens retires and Janice Rogers Brown comes up to bat? We’ll soon find out. I predict that Judge Alito will be just as good at flummoxing the Left as was Chief Justice Roberts! And in the fall term, when Justice Brown takes her seat, it will be Springtime for Liberty in Washington!
