Conservativity is proud to choose Jay Marvin of WLS-AM as our first Liberal with Integrity.  We inaugurated this news-magazine with the intent of providing an advocacy for our position, and for encouraging lively political debate.  If conservatives demonize and excoriate every single person on the other side of the debate, it will descend rapidly into a rancorous insult festival and have no merit as actual debate.

Jay Marvin represents the opposite of the demagogue, the opposite of the fearmonger, the opposite of the elitist.  He is certainly a social liberal, but he is not a blind follower of the liberal party line.  In the same way that Conservativity supports unfettered gay service in the military and civil unions, a varied form of the Equal Rights Amendment that protects people from unisex locker rooms and showers, and the abolition of the death penalty, Mr. Marvin thinks out his position on each issue with no regard to the party line.

An example is Mr. Marvin’s strong support for the Second Amendment, even to the point of supporting concealed carrying of handguns.  I agree with Jay even as he is speaking on the radio as I type; boycotting liberal entertainers because their ideology differs with one’s own is immature.  Example:  I think Uma Thurman is an incredibly good actress, even though she is a liberal and a vocal Kerry supporter.  Am I going to boycott the Kill Bill movies?  Heck no!  Jay Marvin takes this same mature and responsible approach to all of his political debates; he applies actual and intense thought to his political positions.

We’ve lamented the immaturity of the left after losing this election, as they were planning to emigrate to Canada as refugees.   Even on the same day of this article, we lamented the lack of substantial intellectual debate from the left; Mr. Marvin is a shining exception.  While he can crack a hilarious joke with the best, he does not descend into purile namecalling.  Ever.  Jay Marvin, with whom I disagree on many issues, is a great guy.  It is a joy to listen to him.

Jay Marvin presently co-hosts a daily morning show with Eileen Byrne, his conservative counterpart, whose intellect is a match to Jay’s.  You can hear the mutual respect between Jay and Eileen every single day from 9AM-11 AM CT every day, and it is earned.
